i want to learn how to scuba dive in cancun . nothing too complex just want to give it a try . does anyone know of a good company there that will teach first timers and not too expensive. also what age requirement is there for beginner scuba ?also any good places to snorkling off the beach not too far out?

If you go to PADI's website, you can search areas for locations.
The class you want to try is a Discover Scuba class, which is exactly as you described. It gives you a chance to try Sucba, without going through the whole certifiactions process.
