Why is there radiation in fossilized shark teeth?

A friend found some fossilized shark teeth in the waters off Bradenton, FL and a geiger counter lit up around them and now we’re curious. Thank you!!

radiation comes from the compounds breaking down within the tooth. This decay is can be measured to tell how old it its. This is what scientists use. The elements have half lives in which the radiation decreases by half in that time.

  1. Could be a lot of reasons. Take it to a university lab and have it analysed.

  2. there is radiation in everything. even you have radiation… it is just a matter of how much…

  5. It’s true that there’s radiation in everything and that scientist use radiocarbon dating to find certain objects age. That being said, anything that’s lighting up a geiger counter (where did you get a geiger counter?) has something a little extra. I wouldn’t make a necklace out of that one!
